I’ve updated the press section again with some new articles on Tamara’s return to GENERAL HOSPITAL. Like before you can find those at the links provided below. It has been confirmed her character’s name is Kim Nero. I will be posting all screencaps and clips of her episodes so you can keep checking back for those updates. So now here is a bit of the downside of running a website. While I love that Tamara is back on our screens and she is so enthusiastic about her return, I’m feeling a might bit like my intelligence is being insulted by not bringing her back as Carly, a role she played from 2001-2005. I’ve received many emails from fans who have expressed their disappointment with the show for not bringing Tamara back as Carly. Based on the fiasco that was Taylor Raines Walker on DAYS OF OUR LIVES who Tamara played in 2011, I and others feel we’re being betrayed by not having her back as the character we loved. Ergo: Ava on DAYS and Carly on GH. I’m going to make it known that I cannot and have never been able to tolerate Laura Wright as “Carly”. I put that in quotes because to me and others Wright has never been playing Carly. She’s been playing some other incarnation of her Guiding Light character Cassie Layne. My dislike of Wright is also based on her statement, “I’m going to be playing my Carly closer to the original….” This she stated in the days preceding her November 2005 premiere on the show. In effect with those eleven words she more or less threw shade and dissed Tamara and Jennifer Bransford who played Carly as she should have been played as an evolving character, a growing character. Instead Wright took Carly back to the gutter snipe played by Sarah Brown, negated all of the growth, maturity, humility and humanity Tamara infused Carly with and brought her back to a sort of infantile creation. Now Wright wants to say she loves Tamara when she again threw shade at Tamara via various other statements she made after taking over the character.

I know this might rub some people the wrong way, however, I felt it needed to be said. I’m so tired of the soap industry believing they can play this kind of game and think it doesn’t mean anything to the fans. It does. Particularly when Tamara was so beloved by fans of the show and her fans as Carly. And again I mention that whole intelligence insulted thing I mentioned before. I mean on DAYS OF OUR LIVES when they de-Romaned Drake Hogestyn and brought in Josh Taylor as Roman Brady, then tried to tell us he didn’t play Chris Kositcek. Same thing with Tamara as Taylor but then trying to pull the woolly to try to convince us she didn’t just play Ava Vitali only three years before. I know it’s been twelve years since she played Carly, three if you count her brief appearance in the Carlypalooza episode that aired April 1st, 2014. To those of Tamara’s fans who waited and hoped to see her again as Carly, this is a huge let down. From the emails I’ve received some are wondering if they just won’t stick to the clips I’ll provide and avoid actually watching the show to voice their disapproval. I can’t say that I blame them. If not for this site and my dedication to it, I might have skipped it myself. But I don’t have to like it. And I don’t. I hate this and really have reservations about it all. If Tamara reads this I’m not criticizing you, I’m mad at the powers that be that think we’re so stupid we won’t notice. We have and we’re not happy.

Some new scans for the gallery and article for the press section. In this article Tamara talks about her work with sick and injured animals through the www.therealbark.org and www.dharmarescue.org. Tamara talks about her fostering Frankie and Little, a puppy she claims she is a “failed foster” because of how she fell in love with him and decided to keep him. When you look at the baby how could one not. Here is a picture of him from Tamara’s Instagram feed:

Tamara has just confirmed via her Instagram and Twitter accounts that she is indeed coming back to GENERAL HOSPITAL. Entertainment Weekly Online is saying it’ll be as a new character, but my Spidey Senses are telling me it’s as Carly. There’s a candid interview coming up in ABC Soaps in Depth with Laura Wright and I’m feeling that it is an exit interview, and with news that Vanessa Marcil (Brenda Barrett) is on her way back could GENERAL HOSPITAL be gearing up for another Carly/Sonny/Brenda triangle? Could be. Again this is all my speculation.

Still no confirmation of Tamara’s return to GENERAL HOSPITAL. The latest edition of ABC Soaps in Depth carries an article other online publications have been stating of her “imminent” return, though there is still no confirmation from either Tamara or the show. Speculation is that she’s playing a brand new character…. That’ll remain to be seen. I’m only going to give an educated guess here and say Tamara won’t be returning to the show as another character, rather, as Carly. I don’t know about anyone else but I’m so sick and tired of known actors returning to soap operas as characters other than the ones they originated. I’ll cite Tamara’s 2011 return to DAYS OF OUR LIVES not in her Emmy Award Winning role of Ava Vitali but as Taylor Walker and how much of a fiasco that was. I still cannot watch DOOL and see Josh Taylor as Roman Brady without thinking of him as Chris Kositchek. GENERAL HOSPITAL has currently seen the return of long-time fan favourite Steve Burton who played stone cold Jason Morgan for twenty one years before leaving, then showing up on The Young & The Restless as Dylan McAvoy. Burton left last year and returned to his former role. However, that role is currently being occupied by actor Billy Miller. Burton has said he’s signed a three-year deal. Now we begin the whole “Story of Two Jasons”. Could we possibly be seeing the “Tale of Two Carlys”? There’s been next to nothing said by any of the soap-based media since the original report in September. Either one of two things is happening, 1) the report from Daytime Dirty Laundry was fake, or 2) Current Carly protrayer Laura Wright is leaving and Tamara is coming back, but they don’t want the news out quite so soon. I have the scan of the article uploaded to the gallery and the text added to the press section. To go each section please click on the links below.

It was a difficult decision I grappled with when I decided to write this post. You might have noticed that updates of screencaps have been a little sporadic, if not lacking and I truly have to apologize for that lapse. The reason is because I’m really having a difficult time with Tamara’s return to DAYS OF OUR LIVES in her Emmy Winning role of Ava Vitali. That difficulty has been not with Tamara’s work, but with the story line in general. When word came last July that Tamara was coming back to the show, I was so overjoyed. Considering what happened to me earlier in the year, the death of my mother, being able to see Tamara again was that salve I needed for a wounded soul. So like I know most of you I waited patiently for her December return date. I admit I was a little dismayed at the lack of press for her return. There was once a time when a big return like this would get the full court press and all the remaining soap publications would feature a return article. There was one major interview in SOAP OPERA DIGEST, but for the most part they all have been pretty thin in terms of any excitement. Certainly with the waning interest in soap operas in general, one would have hoped that there would be some modicum of interest given how much Tamara is respected within that community, or that her Emmy win would be reason enough to warrant a few articles instead of just one major one. But then comes this article on Daytime Confidential‘s website about DAYS being told to shut down writing until a deal can be reached.

Days of Our Lives writers, put down your pens, er, keyboards. I’ve learned the team led by Josh Griffith and Dena Higley has been told to stop writing until a new deal is reached between NBC, Sony and Corday Productions. The 50-year-old sudser has been written through September 2016.

Last month, NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt and Entertainment President Jennifer Salke told TVLine they were happy with the soap ahead of starting negotiations this month to keep DAYS on the Peacock network. Here’s hoping a new pact can be reached soon.

Despite the positive hope for renewal there is little to be hopeful for from the message boards I’ve visited and or post(ed) to daily. Some are saying the show is done, and I really can’t say I care. With the exception of the actors, stage hands, and other crew who would be out of work, I have to say with the absolute unoriginality of the current stories as well as the lack of coherency of many of the characters and their motivations, most acting out of character I’m not surprised.

I belonged to the Soapcentral message board until today. After five days of debating whether Ava raped Steve (Stephen Nichols), I’m left with a profound state of ennui. Yes they’re calling it rape. Apparently according to many of the posters most of them Steve and Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) fans, they believe that Ava raped Steve. This fills me with both anger and something akin to confusion as to what direction Ava’s return was to go in. Given her previous run as Ava (February 8 2008 – August 04 2008) I was hoping for something for Tamara that would push Ava into a bit of human conflict in who she’d be this time around. With Tamara’s run as Taylor in 2011 and how much that story line fizzled with unfulfilled promises and again from 2008, I had hoped the powers that be at DAYS, NBC and Sony would have realized the gold they have in Tamara and the possibility of an Ava and Steve pairing enough to dare to break up the iconic Steve and Kayla in order to bring together two amazing talents who’d be capable of shaking the show up. Instead was I was given was a sham yet again and a huge sense of disappointment at the end of today’s episode. The utter lack of concern from Steve for Ava and the devastation Ava felt at finding out their son was dead. While Tamara killed it, as she always does, I felt a break in me that has left me feeling very disillusioned.

Tamara has given her first interview since her return to DAYS OF OUR LIVES to Soap Opera Digest. Here she discusses coming back to DAYS, her role as Taylor in 2011 and reuniting with all her soap family on the show. She says some really sweet things about James Lastovic who plays the grown Joey Johnson. Can this woman be any more perfect?

Siren Song

Why Tamara Braun Returned To Days For A Third Go-Round
By Robert Waldron

Soap Opera Digest: What was your reaction when DAYS called and asked i fyou would like to come back as Ava?
Tamara Braun: I was excited. I lvoed playing Ava the first time around because whe was such a complex character with many layers to be explored. Playing Ava allowed me to delve into territories I had not delved into on-screen before, so it was a joy for me when I originated the character. [Then-Co-Executive Producer]Ed Scott really trusted me and allowed me to fly with her. When they were interested in bringing her back, I was so curious to see what they had in store for her. Why now? Where has she been? What has she been up to? What’s happened in her life? My imagination started to churm. I loved Ava, I won my Emmy for her, so I was very interested.

Digest: Did DAYS tell you the story that was planned?
Braun: They told me the idea they had. I had questions about specifics and the writers were open to exploring and answering those questions. What I was told and what became of the story was different, though. But that’s a soap. One day, you are an upstanding citizen and the next, you are a criminal. The reverse can happen, too. Sinner to saint. Saint to sinner. It’s forever changing and full of surprises.

Digest: What excites you about playing Ava again?>
Braun: Jumping into her skin to see what it feels like. Seeing how she’s changed, grown, stayed the saem, evolved or not. her psyche is so different from other characters I have played on daytime. Her psychological wounds run much deeper and the effects of those wounds manifest in unique ways. There’s a lot to discover and rediscover.

Digest: What was your first day back like?
Braun: Pure joy! People were really surprised to see me back. I was asked not to say anything and so I didn’t. Therefore it was a surprise. Everyone was so welcoming and happy. It made me feel quite loved. It was great to see so many faces from the past and to meet some wonderful new people, too.

Digest: Who did you see on your first day?
Braun: Stephen Nichols [Steve], Mary Beth Evans [Kayla], Kate Mansi [Abigail], Kristian Alfonso [Hope], Galen Gering [Rafe], my lovely makeup artists Nina [Wells] and Deidre [Decker], Richard [Bloore], Jammie [Harris], and Adam [T. Talbot] in wardrove. [Co-Executive Producer] Albert Alarr, of course, and Steven Williford was my director on my first day back. I had the pleasure of working with him and experiencing his brilliance on ALL MY CHILDREN in New York when I played Reese. I was so excited to be working with him again. It was a quick first shoot day for me but it was fun. I felt so appreciated and welcomed. I was shocked at how warm and the welcome was. I guess since I have only done short stints on DAYS in the past, I never really felt I earned that sort of family status you gain while working for long periods on shows. But the way I was received made me feel like a part of the family. I was so incredible.

Digest: What was it like for you to get back into Ava’s head after playing Taylor in 2011?
Braun: I never thought of Taylor with my playing Ava.

Digest: There have been a lot of changes at the show since you were last there in 2011. What are your thought on the current atmosphere? Do you notice an excitement?
Braun: There is so much positive energy there; it’s wonderful! People seem happy and they are prepared to work and are excited about the work. I absolutely noticed an excitement. I commented to friends and my family about how the energy there seemed to have changed for the better. It was a pleasure to be a part of.

Digest: What is it like for you to bbe working Stephen Nichols again?
Braun: Oh please! Wonderful! A joy! A gift! Stephen cares so much and he is kind, thoughtful, always prepared and funny! Hecan be silly and so we laugh a lot. You didn’t ask about Mary Beth, but I have to mention her, too, because she is such a doll, a real woman’s woman No BS. And talk about laughing a lot? Honestly, working with the two of them is a treat. I’m so grateful to work with them because they are terrrific people. I just adore them both.

Digest: How is it working with James Lastovic (Joey)?
Braun: Okay, let’s talk about James. Seriously, I wish I knew what air date it was to tell you do look out for, but he just blew my mind one day. Absolutely blew me away. I was talking to everyone about it and asking if they saw his scenes. He has such a wealth of available emotions that I did not realize was in there. He possesses an honesty, simplicity and sensitivity that I don’t see that much in actors his age who are just starting out. I really enjoyed working with him and can’t wait to see his work in the future. On top of being a compelling young actor, he is an incredibly kind and gentle soul. Such a pleasure to work with him.

Digest: You’ve played several diverse roles in daytime. What appeals most ot you about the genre?
Braun: Having a place to go to daily and do the work. Being an actor is a tough business. Most of us really want to do the work and use our craft. Except for theatre and daytime, yo udon’t get the opportunity to do a lot of work in one day. Sometimes daytime can be difficult because the pace is so fast that there isn’t time to get it “right”, or to have another take, but it’s rar that you don’t have something substantial to do in this medium. there is always work to be done, new avenues to explore. Even with the pace the way it is not (which can be nuts), you know that “tomorrow is another day” and you always have nother chance to improve and work your muscles.

SURPRISE PARTY

Braun kept in touch with Kate Mansi (Abigail) in her time away from Salem, but didn’t tell Mansi about her return to the show. “I was asked to keep things quiet about returning so I did. I was sitting the makeup chair and did’nt want to bother anyone. All of a sudden I hear, ‘Tamara, is that you? Oh, my God, Tamara, what are you doing here? Are you back? Why didn’t you tell me.’ I got up and went over to her and gave her a big hug and saw that was tearing up. I think she was a little hurt that I didn’t tell her about my return but I was just following instructions from the powers-that-be! She also thought I saw her sitting in the makeup chair, which I hadn’t. she’s a sweetie pie and my has she grown as an actress!”

As we all know, Tamara is returning to DAYS OF OUR LIVES in her Emmy Award Winning role of Ava Vitali. Here is an article from Soap Opera Digest about her return.
