MY EMMY EXPERIENCE
by Stephanie Sloane
"I was shocked," says Tamara Braun, who nabbed the Supporting Actress Emmy in August for her six-month stint as DAYS's Ava. "I think its pretty obvious. I wwent and watched my reaction. One of my friends told me they were watching the TV and kept yelling, 'Smile!' I looked horrified, like I may throw up. I was certain someone else was going to win. When I was walking up there, I thought, 'Oh, no, what do I want to say?' But I feel fantastic about it. It's so great and I'm so proud of my work, so it means a lot."
Who She Forgot To Thank
"Since I wasn't prepared, I totally spaced mentioning anything other than my love and admiration for my mother, as you can tell. I completely forgot to thank my managers, John Carrabino and Gladys Conzalez, and my agent, Joe Rice, for everything that they have done and do. And the fans for supporting me no matter where I go. They really are amazing! I wished I had remembered them on the stage."
Familiar Faces
"It was just so great to see poeple from ALL MY CHILDREN, DAYS and GENERAL HOSPITAL. I ran into Rick Hearst [Whip, B&B; ex-Ric, GH et al, above] going into the after party, and there is just no better person to get a big hug from when they are happy for you than Rick Hearst. he has the most positive, warm energy in his hugs and we go way back. I love him and his family, so that was just a wonderful surprise to see him right there."
To The Moon
"I met Buzz Aldrin [r.] on the red carpet! I was all grins. He's an astronaut and I have a picture with him! I saw him and said, 'Who is that distinquished man?' When I found out, I was in awe. What an absolute privilege to meet him and then when I made it back into the auditorium — after I missed the Muppet tribute, which I have to say I'm completely bummed about because I love the Muppets and I want to be on SESAME STREET one day — Buzz stopped me and congratulated me."
Surprise! Me, Too!
"Since i did the press line [after I won], during a commercial break, Darin [Brooks, ex-Max, DAYS below, who won for Younger Lead Actor] came to me with his Emmy in hand, and I had no idea. I was so shocked and happy for him. He's such a wonderful actor, as is Blake [Berris, ex-Nick]. I mean, of course, anybody nominated is deserving of it, and they put the work in."
Mom's Night Out
Braun's date was her mother, Renata Bennett (above r.). "She had an absolute blast! I was so happy to have her be a part of it, and I thought she looked so beautiful, and it was just wonderful to share that with her. She's the one who encouraged me in school. I thought I wanted to be doing something else and she said to me, 'I have one major regret in my life that gives me heartbreak — that I stopped dancing. It was my dream. I was really good; it was my passion. If this is your passion, this is your dream, then I support you in following that, but don't f*** around. If you're going to do this, take it seriously, work hard and do everything you can so you have no regrets.;:
Emmy's New Home
"it's so funny, because they handed me this Emmy and I was not expecting it and I sounded like a moron onstage. Then they too me away and someone grabbed the Emmy and I was in a whirlwind and they said, 'Come, you have to do press.' I started to walk off and then I looked back at the person who took my Emmy and I said, 'Do I get to have that?' They use prop ones. The one they hand you onstage is not hte one you go home with. You go to the press line and sign for your Emmy. I have my Emmy, but not my plaque yet. You have to order the plaque. So, she's at home hanging with me, leaning a little to the left. A friend of mine came in and noticed that. I tried to turn her. I'm like, 'Does she still lean to the left?' Yep, she still leans to the left. She's a liberal."
What's Next?
"I just booked a role on [the new CBS drama] THREE RIVERS! And Emmy and I are hanging out!"
More CHILDREN?
Now that AMC is moving to L.A., where she lives, would she return as Reese? "I would love to talk to them if approached. There have to be a lot of things in order to make anything work. Like I say with all the shows — because I've had good experiences with all three — if the timing is right, the storyline is right and it works for everybody, then you can see me on one of those shows. I think everything in life is about timing."
