Welcome to TAMARA BRAUN ONLINE a site dedicated to Emmy Award Winning actress and activist Tamara Braun. Known for her best known roles as Ava Vitali (Days of our Lives), Reese Williams (All My Children) and Carly Corinthos/Dr. Kim Nero (General Hospital). Tamara as quite a few prime time credits to her name including Bosch, CSI, Saving Grace, Supernatural, Freddie, Castle, Without a Trace, House and including the films Little Chenier, Limbo Lounge, Fallen Arches, Pretty Rosebud. Tamara is also an activist lending her name and time to many charities and causes to create change in the world. This site has a strict NO CANDIDS POLICY. To read that please click the link.

GENERAL HOSPITAL is about to celebrate it’s 55th anniversary on April 1, 2018. It’s been on the airwaves for longer than any of its other competitors on the other networks. Even its two ABC sister soaps One Life To Live and ALL MY CHILDREN don’t have the same bonafides. So in light of that astounding accomplishment, one would think the impetus of the current powers that be would be to beef up the show’s future by borrowing from the past. Last year saw an amazing fete from executive producer Frank Valentini in his ability to lure back two of the show’s high power players. Those being our Tamara Braun and Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The other was to bring back Genie Francis and push her toward becoming the grand dame of the show in giving her a larger role in her capacity as the iconic Laura Vining Webber Baldwin Spencer. Even having her find love again and marrying her to long time VIP Kevin Collins played by long-time vet Jon Lindstrom. It looked like they were positioning this show to become something more in terms of making it viable past it’s 55th Anniversary. So what mistakes have they, or rather Frank Valentini made that makes the viability of this show in question? Let’s examine.

When it was announced that Tamara was on her way back to GH I had hoped, as did many others, she would be reclaiming her role of Carly Corinthos. I know for me I had all my fingers, toes and eyes crossed. When ABC Soaps in Depth said it would be featuring an article in its November 2017 edition with Laura Wright it seemed from all appearances it would be an exit interview. When it came closer to Tamara’s airdate, we received news that her “character” would have something to do with Patient6 (Jason) and she would have news on him. This baited us more with the possibility of a switcheroo that she would indeed be replacing Wright, but then we found out her character’s name would be Kim Nero thus dashing all our hopes she would be playing Carly once again. A role all of her fans was praying she’d one day come “home” to play. Frank Valentini said in an interview he’d talked to her back in 2009 at the Daytime Emmy awards where she won for Best Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama for her role of Ava Vitali on DAYS OF OUR LIVES. If I’d be a betting woman, I’d deduce Valentini was perhaps positioning Tamara to come back to play Carly. That was until 2011 when Laura Wright won for Best Actress in a Daytime Drama for playing largely a faux Carly. Given the field that year The Bold & Beautiful veteran Susan Flannery was the front-runner given her decision to retire from the soap. However, Wright won in effect scuttling any chance of Tamara’s return to come back to play Carly.

We come to 2017 and Steve Burton’s triumphant return as Jason, Genie finally being elevated to contract and Tamara returning as Kim. So what’s wrong with that picture? Plenty. Apparently Genie was given her walking papers before Christmas. Yeah she was demoted to non-contract status and in Frank Valentini’s words to appear in count ’em TWELVE episodes a year. That is so demeaning to this actress who single-highhandedly saved this show from cancellation back in 1977. Until the David Hamilton Murder Case GENERAL HOSPITAL was on the cancellation block. With the creation of that storyline the show was saved from cancellation, with Genie and her onscreen mother Lesley played by Denise Alexander being the stars who not only saved the show, but brought it to prominence for Gloria Monty to be able to come in to revamp the show with the espionage and intrigue of the Left-Handed Boy story, but also bringing in Tony Geary as Luke Spencer. But again remember it was Genie and Denise who saved this show. Not Geary. Geary if not for Monty would have been a short-term character, gone in perhaps the customary thirteen week cycle and never to be remembered again. Instead Luke was saved and it was Roy DiLuca (Asher Bruner) who was sacrificed in order to set up the beginning of the Laura and Luke phenomenon. Notice what I did? I said LAURA and Luke. Not the other way around as is the custom for most articles to give Geary more credit than Francis.

We’re more than two months away from the April 1st 55th anniversary. Yet we have Frank Valentini making ridiculous if not insane decisions such as not bringing Tamara back to play Carly and letting Genie Francis go. He hired Laura Wright’s boyfriend in a parking lot for a contract character no one cares about, but he reduced the iconic Genie Francis to twelve appearances a year? If Valentini had any balls, which I don’t believe he does, he’d have cut his losses with Wright…and face it in most of the message boards and comment sections I visit daily, no one likes Wright’s interpretation of Carly. They don’t like her selfishness, her hubris, her grandiosity and her loudness. I’ve counted at least a dozen nicknames. They want the Carly back who had learned lessons, grown, become a woman and had vulnerability, something Wright is totally incapable of playing due to her lack of understanding of subtext. Oh sure she can cry on cue, but little else in terms of subtlety. However, Valentini did something we GH and most specifically we Carly fans never thought would happen: Tamara Braun would come back to GENERAL HOSPITAL. Given the re-hiring of Steve Burton and the re-signing of Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) to another three years, and the 55th Anniversary of the show coming up, what a time to have reunited the real CarSaSon (for the uninitiated that is Carly/Jason/Sonny) and begin to carve out a path to keep the show on for the foreseeable future. Imagine what that would look like to bring about a renaissance for this show and give us back our grown up Carly, original Jason and Sonny, plus giving us Laura Vining Webber Baldwin Spencer now Collins in a storyline worthy of Genie’s ample talent, and allow this show to get back to what it used to do: Entertain.

I’m being told by some that they love Laura Wright’s Carly. Most of those are newer fans who just started watching when Wright was playing Carly. They don’t understand who Carly was under Sarah Brown, and who she became under Tamara Braun. What is currently on our screens with Laura Wright is not Carly. That Laura Wright is not trained enough to understand that “playing my Carly closer to the original” means backsliding for a character that had become something more under both Tamara Braun and Jennifer Bransford, she clearly doesn’t understand what playing a long term character on a soap opera means. If we look at the character of Luke Spencer as a model and see that what started out to be a one-note character become a hero, then we see what that means in terms of making the show current. We have to forget what mess Tony Geary made out of Luke in the end in trying to deconstruct the myth. That’s what Laura Wright did. She deconstructed all growth Tamara’s Carly made in understanding why she had the impulses she did, why she lied, why she did the things she did. She learned a lot in light of the Kristina reveal and became a heroine in her own right, not Wright. And that is what we all do when we watch these shows. We grow along with the characters because that’s the nature of the show. For any of Wright’s fans who believe she’s playing the grown version of Sarah Brown’s Carly, think again. She’s not. She claims she’s playing her Carly, “closer to the original”. Again she’s not. She’s playing as some have said to me in private emails and as that poster to IMDB said, more of Princess Cassie Winslow from Guiding Light. She’s not playing Caroline Leigh “Carly” Benson Corinthos. She’s playing a transplanted Cassie. That’s all. When you look at Tamara’s three other soap characters of Ava Vitali (DAYS OF OUR LIVES), Taylor Walker (DAYS OF OUR LIVES) and Reese Williams (ALL MY CHILDREN) not to mention Kim Nero, none of these other characters Tamara has played is anything like the other. Carly is not like Ava, is not like Taylor, is not like Reese is not like Kim. This shows how well Tamara is able to craft her characters into individual beings, not carbon copies of another one she’s played. We could see in 2014 with the “Carlypalooza” episode of GENERAL HOSPITAL aired on the 51st anniversary of GENERAL HOSPITAL on April 1st, we saw Tamara work her magic. Bring Carly back to her evolved self. That alone told us that Laura Wright is all wrong for playing Carly. One thing I know about running this website since 2006 is the proclivity of my visitors in terms of the gallery views. Most of the time they’re viewing the most recent uploads, however, most of the current views have been in the section dedicated to Tamara’s time as Carly for the years 2001 and 2002, the years I have up in the gallery. (I’m still working on editing 2003-2005). But people are interested in her time as Carly. I’m not getting as many hits on the Kim Nero section of gallery as I am on the Carly Corinthos section. That says something. I’m going to let you interpret that in whatever way you will dear reader. But to me it’s clear.

So what would my short-term fixes be? Fire Laura Wright. Get rid of her or find another character for her to play. It’s been done before via the One Life to Live three. Reinstate Tamara as Carly. Perhaps have Carly suddenly a doctor. This show has done weirder things. That would give Tamara that meat she loves to play and fulfill for her what she wanted for Carly way back in 2005 when she made her decision to leave due to the lack of wanting Carly to have a career. Heck it’s been done before. Do a do-over of the Mayoral race and have Laura win. Allow her to become what Laura was always meant to become, a champion of Port Charles. That’s who she was back in the 70s and 80s. Make that happen for her and for her fans. Get rid of the flotsam in Valentin, Nina, Ava. Those characters wouldn’t be missed. Pervy Franco, get rid of him. No one likes him either. Make Roger Howarth Todd Manning again. With the settlement of the Prospect Park suit in ABC’s favour, they now are able to use the ALL MY CHILDREN and One Life to Live characters. Do it! Perhaps the pairing of Howarth and Rebecca Herbst as Elizabeth wouldn’t be as skeevy considering “Franco’s” past. Todd Manning though flawed, became a better man after what he did to Marty Saybrooke (Susan Haskell). But those are just some of my short-term solutions to correct those mistakes Frank Valentini has made with this show. If there are others please post them in the comments section. If you like this post and by and large agree with it, share it on your social media accounts. Tag Valentini, ABC and GENERAL HOSPITAL if you like. We have to become proactive to correct the very bad decisions that have been made. And bringing back Tamara Braun as someone else other than Carly, and firing Genie Francis is bad logic.

I just thought I’d post this for those who don’t know what’s going on with these two soaps. One has a lot to do with Tamara in that she played a major character on ALL MY CHILDREN as Reese Williams. As you likely know by now, both soaps are on their way back to the airwaves. Well, sort of. Prospect Park and it’s Online Network have signed a deal with HULU and HULU Plus as well as iTunes to bring the shows to the fans online. Further Prospect Park has just announced they have sold the rights to air the shows in Canada via the FX channel. A great thing for us Canucks who up to this point have been left out of the loop. To watch the shows in either the United States and Canada, follow the links below.

Late again. That will be my epitaph on my gravestone, “Here lies Dianne….Late Again!” I mean it!

Haven’t Tamara and James been utterly breathtaking. I’m thoroughly enjoying their scenes. He looks so happy and animated. It’s good to see a man enjoying his work. There’s something James had to say on EJ’s love life and the loves of his life. It’s a Youtube video [ LINK HERE ]. I love that he says that Sami (Alison Sweeney) and Nicole (Arianne Zuker) are like games to EJ. He did say that EJ needed someone new in his life. And we all know who that someone is….Our girl! [ insert a lot of squeeeeeeeeeing here ].

Okay, I have a bit of a Keith Olbermann inspired commentary to make here. I will warn you, I’m likely to piss off some people but this is something I want to get off my chest. Since this is my space and my dime, I’m going to vent. So here we go……

I’ve been pretty pissed off at the various message boards I visit daily to test the air of those watching this current storyline with Tamara’s Taylor and about her having taken over the role. And may I say I’m so disappointed. What I’m disappointed in is the amount of bellyaching about the loss of Natalia Livingston. The most common thing being said is how they (the individual posters) are ::air quote:: disappointed ::close air quote:: angry at the way Natalia was ‘carted off’ by the powers that be and the fact that the character as she set down has changed. I say, of course Taylor has changed. There’s a different actress playing her now, a different vibe entirely. The thing most reiterrated has been they want the sweetness and innocence to remain. I say why? Why should those things remain when the character originally played by Katherine Ellis, didn’t have that doe-eyed gullibility to her. After watching various clips of Katherine’s work as Taylor from August 1998-May 1999, I can now see why this recast was warranted. Natalia, while a nice person, wasn’t playing what the producer and writers wanted in the character as scripted. So they excercised their option and hired another actress who could bring to the table what they wanted.

There’s only so long one can remain like a babe in the woods. Those kinds of characters get eaten up and spit out quickly. Tamara coming in to play a more layerd and worldly Taylor is what this part needed…as Katherine Ellis had in her portrayal. Remember Taylor went to work in that orphanage in Romania. One doesn’t go to a shithole like that and not come back with a different aspect on life. One cannot see what Taylor likely saw there, experienced in terms of the military regimes and not KNOW the world. Natalia’s saccharine sweet portrayal of Taylor would have ended up raped or dead in a place like that being a Westerner. So here’s my question to all the Taylor ‘fans’ who think that Natalia’s Taylor was the best: Do you believe she could have been in a country like Ramania and still be so sickeningly sweet and innocent?

I’ll answer it from my perspective, no she can’t. Tamara’s version is far more worldly and far more experienced in the way things work than NL’s could ever have portrayed. If the writing for Taylor….THIS Taylor were better and we got her backstory while she was away from Salem, I think THIS Taylor’s detractors would be singing a different tune. For me it’s all about who can portray the character the best and considering what was laid down with Katherine Ellis, Natalia Livingston was falling short of who Taylor was supposed to be. Kind, not sweet. Experienced, but not jaded. Worldly, this aspect most of all. This is not supposed to be a Disney cartoon of Taylor singing: “Some day my prince will come…..” All the while being surrounded by butterflies and birdies. This is about a woman who is supposed to have gone out into the world and done work in the real world. Natalia’s Taylor was plainly a combination of Cindarella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty all rolled into one. I for one don’t care to see another woman depicted like that on a soap. I want to see what blood Tamara will bring to this character. What meat she will add to the bones Natalia failed to populate. Taylor is supposed to be what now, mid 30s…not some flighty 16. Taylor is supposed to be a educated in the business world. One cannot be that naiveé and not know how things work.

My main reason for being this angry at what has transpired is following on the heels of two recent portrayls of women on soaps. They are Susan Haskell (Marty Saybrooke, ONE LIFE TO LIVE) and Emily O’Brien (Jana, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS). Both Marty and Jana were made to go whacko, kidnapping babies and generally becoming unrecognizable in light of who they were before. In Marty’s case, a doctor who had been gang raped and survived. Jana had been cured of a brain aneurysm, yet was given another and suddenly her silicon chip got switched to overload due to being kidnapped and held for a series of weeks. Both actresses were assets to the shows they worked on, yet both have been reduced to nothing. One, O’Brien, is now gone from her show, Jana having died of her brain tumor. Haskell is yet to see her last day, but given the way this storyline has been going, it won’t be long now. And of all things, Tamara’s leading man, Ted King as Tomas Delgado has been dispatched to be the one to do the deed. I’ve yet to see any male character written off as a nutjob. No, they go down as heroes or are resurrected as some kind of god worthy of having maidens fall at his feet in awe. This has to stop. There was a line in the James Bond film CASINO ROYALE (2006) offered by the ill fated Vesper Lynd played by the stunning Eva Green. It goes like this: “You think of women as disposable pleasures, rather than meaningful pursuits…” That seems to be the feeling these days with writers who write for women on soaps. They’ve become appendages of their men instead of individuals on their own merit. One only has to look at Tamara’s wishes for Carly after the final divorce from Sonny (Maurice Benard). Tamara wanted Carly to go off on her own for a while with her sons, Michael and Morgan, and just be a mom. She also wanted Carly to have a career of her own, something she could be proud of and build without a man. We all know how that turned out. And this is the heart of what I’m talking about. If anything comes of the firing of Dena Higley, head writer of DOOL, please oh please oh please Ken Corday, hire someone who can and is willing to write strong women capable of being their own forces of nature rather than bitches who concern themselves with make up, nails, catty retorts with other women, or the usual device used to delineate women on soaps these days, mud wrestlers with clevage and little else. Zwinkie’s who resemble something of an MKULtra project gone wrong.

I’m sorry if this has offended, but I’m sick of seeing Tamara Braun and Katherine Ellis marginalized for the whiney Natalia Livingston fans who don’t like it that their girl was fired.

I was going to say, “Rant over,” but I think I’m going to say point proven. I’m hoping to get some press scans added to the gallery and the articles up in the press section this weekend now the backlog in episodes are done. Wish me luck…..

These are late again, I know. So much for ‘day ahead’ clips and caps. Problem is with recording two episodes of DAYS a day plus having to record and clip and cap up ONE LIFE TO LIVE with Ted King and THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS witn Stephen Nichols I get a tad bit behind in doing each days work. Still haven’t streamlined the process any. That’s me though. I’ll be back later with the media for today (USA) episode and I won’t make you wait for Monday’s (Canada) episode.

Did you miss me? For some not likely…for others who have written me to ask if I’m okay, thanks for that. It’s appreciated. Sorry for the lack of updates, but with Tamara back on DAYS on a regular basis, Stephen Nichols and Ted King on their respective soaps almost as regularly as Tamara, the work has piled up. I’ve had to tackle what I can when I can. Also, I mentioned in another post that I’ve had problems with what to do about the day ahead clips and trying to streamline things so it doesn’t become so overwhelming…. Well, I think I’ve found a way to cut the time I’m spending on caps and clips in half. I’ve also been trying to figure out what to do about the day ahead Canadian episodes. I hate the shoddy screencaps from the non-digital station that shows DAYS OF OUR LIVES at 3:00 PM weekdays — Global Calgary — and would prefer to keep to the digital HD version of on-the-day episodes US. The screencaps and the clips are far better quality. So here’s what I’ve decided, I will be recording both HD-digital at the regular 1:00 PM airtime on the NBC feed, and the day ahead airing at 3:00 PM Global feed from Calgary. I will only be taking screencaps and the permanent clip from the NBC HD-digital feed only. I have set up a special channel on the Tamara Soap Operas media site for these clips, however, they will only be available for one day until the US airing. Those day ahead clips will be replaced by the better NBC feed as the permanent archive for the episodes. So if you want to watch them, you have to get them before I delete them and add the HD-digital feed as the clip on record. I also will not be putting up the embed into the post as I’ve done before. It’ll get too confusing to keep track of which is which. I’ll be tagging the day ahead clips in the post I make so you know which it is you’re viewing. So I hope that’s all clear. If not, let me know in the comments and I’ll try to clarify it as best I can. Without further adieu, here is the backlog in episodes and screencaps.

Oh, one more thing. I’ve noticed that people have been making fan art from my screencaps and crediting only the creator of the fan art. Well, I’d like a little credit for providing the medium for this fan art to be done. I’m not trying to be bitchy about it, but just that one credit would be a nice gesture.

I managed to find some images of Tamara from soap scooper Michael Fairman’s 50th birthday bash. I’m sorry they’re not HQ, but they were all I could find. But at least we have a siting for the new year. It looks like Tamara has gone back to her brunette colour. She looks stunning though. The ‘scoop’ on how I found out about this is, I post regularly to the boards at SoapCentral.com and Dan J. Kroll who owns the website has a regular Sirius radio show. Each week he interviews people from the soap world, but sometimes he has a phone in show where he answers questions from the fans. Well, I called in because I wanted to find out three things. The first was about Ted King‘s newly minted role on ONE LIFE TO LIVE, next was where Stephen Nichols had gone on THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, last but not least, where Tamara was these days and whether we’d be seeing her again. Kroll told me that Tamara had attended Fairman’s birthday bash. So I of course Googled and found these. Again not the greatest quality, but good to see Tamara. I did download the program from Kroll’s site in MP3 format. If anyone would like me to clip out my section, let me know and I’ll post it. But not until.
